TxDOT road closures impacting El Paso motorists from April 26 to May 4

EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) – The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has announced a series of road closures and detours affecting motorists in El Paso from April 26 to May 4. These closures are part of ongoing construction projects aimed at improving traffic flow and infrastructure in the region. Significant closures include the I-10 West widening, which will undergo a 49-hour closure starting April 26 at 4 a.m. This closure will require drivers to navigate various detours, including exiting at the Mesa exit ramp and re-entering at the Redd entrance ramp. On Monday, April 28, through Thursday, May 1, additional nightly closures from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. are expected as construction crews implement a traffic switch. Daytime closures are also reported on multiple roads, including regular operations between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to facilitate pavement and miscellaneous repairs. Crews will be active across various points, including the US-54 area and the expanding areas near Loop 375. This week marks an essential period for both construction crews and motorists. With multiple detours and closures extending until the spring of 2026, the changes may create challenges for local residents who rely on these major thoroughfares for their daily commute. The TxDOT advises all drivers to remain updated through their interactive maps and follow posted detour signs to minimize disruptions and ensure safety. As the community faces these inconveniences, the emphasis remains on the future benefits of the enhanced roadways. Overall, while construction is often met with frustration due to delays and rerouted traffic, it is an essential cadence for the improvement of our infrastructure. Nonetheless, this wave of roadwork poses a significant impact on daily life in El Paso, necessitating patience and flexibility from drivers during this transitional period.
