Tragic Death of 71-Year-Old Woman Following Supermarket Altercation

A 71-year-old woman has tragically passed away following an incident outside a Lidl supermarket in Stourport on 28 May. The events surrounding this incident have led to the arrest of two individuals, who now face serious charges including involuntary manslaughter.

According to West Mercia Police, they were made aware of the altercation that occurred between 4 PM and 8 PM on the same day. Witnesses reported that a violent confrontation involved four individuals. During this confrontation, a 65-year-old man and the deceased, a 71-year-old woman, were reportedly assaulted.

The two suspects, identified as a 62-year-old woman and a 67-year-old man, were initially detained on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. However, with the subsequent passing of the elderly woman, police have escalated their charges to involuntary manslaughter, reflecting the serious ramifications of their alleged actions.

Detective Inspector Warren Matthews from north Worcestershire CID has emphasized the urgency of their ongoing investigation, urging any potential witnesses or those with dash cam footage from the Lidl car park around the time of the incident to come forward. He stated, "Enquiries are on-going to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and we are keen to hear from any witnesses." Policemen are keen to gather as much information as possible to piece together the details of this distressing event.

The police have also made clear their desire for the public to respect the grieving family’s privacy during this profoundly difficult time. They have appealed to the community to refrain from speculation online regarding the incident, which can often complicate ongoing investigations and add to the family's anguish.
