Serious Accident on M62 Causes Major Delays and Road Closures

National Highways has issued a warning regarding significant delays of up to 50 minutes on the M62, where two lanes remain closed following a serious accident.

The incident occurred on the eastbound section of the motorway between Junction 21 (A6193 Sir Isaac Newton Way, Milnrow) and Junction 22 (A672, Rishworth Moor). Traffic conditions are challenging with queueing traffic reported. In support of the emergency response, traffic was held momentarily on both sides of the motorway.

The extent of the closures is noticeable; the M62 is currently shut in both directions between Junctions 22 and 21 to facilitate the arrival of emergency services, including an air ambulance. All traffic is being temporarily held and some motorists are experiencing stationary conditions.

According to traffic service reports, all lanes of traffic are affected—northbound and southbound—due to the incident, which primarily originated from complications on the eastbound lane. The westbound lanes have also been closed to allow safe landing for the emergency air crew.

As of now, there are no confirmed reports regarding injuries, leaving drivers in suspense about the situation. Motorists are strongly advised to avoid this section of the M62, given the quickly escalating delays and congestion.

This tragic event follows closely on the heels of another fatal collision earlier this month near Junction 19, where a 24-year-old man lost his life after hitting a bridge.
