Family Joins Search for Missing Scotsman
The family of Greg Monks, a 38-year-old man from Glasgow, has traveled to Portugal to aid in the search for him after he went missing following a night out in Albufeira. Monks was last seen early Wednesday morning after leaving a popular bar area in the resort town.
Having arrived in Portugal the previous day as part of a stag do, Monks informed his friends that he was departing around 2 a.m. to head back to his accommodation. Alarmingly, he has not been spotted since, prompting concerns from his family who describe his disappearance as “not like him.”
In a desperate plea for information, his sister Jillian Monks took to social media to ask for help from anyone present in Albufeira. She wrote: “My brother is missing in Albufeira and has not been seen since Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. Anyone who is there or has any information please message. Feel free to share on platforms. Reported to police and hotel and embassy. Please any information we are desperate – not like him to do this.”
The family has set up a GoFundMe page to assist with the costs associated with the search effort. The local police have been notified of his disappearance, and both the hotel and embassy are involved in the matter.
A spokesperson from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office confirmed their support, stating: “We are supporting the family of a British man reported missing in Portugal and are in contact with the local authorities.”
The situation highlights the importance of community assistance in missing person cases, particularly during holidays where people may encounter unfamiliar environments. As the search unfolds, the family remains hopeful for a positive update.
