San Francisco 49ers Finalizing Trade for Bryce Huff from Philadelphia Eagles

The San Francisco 49ers are poised to strengthen their defensive line as they near a trade agreement with the Philadelphia Eagles for pass rusher Bryce Huff. This strategic move aims to bolster the team's edge rushing capabilities ahead of the upcoming season.

According to reports, the trade deal is set to be finalized with the 49ers sending a Day 3 draft pick to the Eagles for Huff. However, the official processing of this trade will occur after June 1 due to contractual stipulations. To facilitate the deal, the Eagles have restructured Huff’s contract. Originally, he was slated to earn approximately $17 million fully guaranteed, but this figure has been adjusted to $9.05 million, with the remaining $7.95 million being assumed by San Francisco.

This transaction not only adds depth to the 49ers' defense but also brings Huff back under the guidance of defensive coordinator Robert Saleh. Saleh previously coached Huff during his successful stint with the New York Jets, where Huff achieved a career-high of 10 sacks in 2023.

Last season with the Eagles, Huff recorded 2.5 sacks over 12 games, contributing with three tackles for loss and four quarterback hits. Despite limited production, the change in scenery might reignite his potential, allowing him to deliver more consistent performances when reunited with Saleh.

From the Eagles’ perspective, trading Huff makes financial sense as it mitigates the potential dead cap hit. A trade before June 1 would have incurred $12.1 million in dead money in 2025; however, opting for a post-June 1 trade reduces that figure to $3 million while freeing up $4.4 million in cap space.

Following Huff's departure, the Eagles will rely on their current pass-rushers including Nolan Smith, Jalyx Hunt, and newly acquired players Azeez Ojulari and Josh Uche to maintain their defensive prowess.

Huff, now entering his age-27 season, will find himself positioned behind former Defensive Rookie of the Year Nick Bosa and the team’s 2025 first-round pick, Mykel Williams in San Francisco. As the 49ers look to keep pace in a competitively charged league, Huff’s arrival could prove critical in maintaining a formidable defensive front.
