Limited Run Games to Bring DOOM and DOOM II Back in Physical Form with Unique Editions

In an exciting announcement for gaming enthusiasts and collectors, Limited Run Games is partnering with Bethesda Softworks to release new physical editions of the legendary first-person shooters DOOM and DOOM II. Pre-orders are set to open on April 18, 2025, presenting an enticing opportunity for fans to own a piece of gaming history. The release will feature three distinct editions catering to varying tastes and budgets. The Standard Edition includes both DOOM titles, original expansion packs, and additional content like the new episode 'Legacy of Rust' and John Romero’s SIGIL and SIGIL II, marking their debut in physical form. For avid collectors, the Big Box Edition ups the ante with a retro cassette tape soundtrack set and exclusive Monster Booster Cards, all elegantly packaged in a collector's box adorned with iconic artwork. However, the pièce de résistance is undoubtedly the Will It Run Edition, humorously priced at $666.66 and limited to just 666 copies. This edition embraces a long-running joke within the DOOM community about the game’s adaptability across countless platforms. It includes a Cacodemon statue, a mini handheld version that runs DOOM, and a collectible box that also functions as a playable console. Complementing these releases, Limited Run Games will also provide a CRKD NEO S RED KEY CARD Edition controller, designed to match the beloved in-game aesthetic, further enhancing the gaming experience. Standalone Monster Booster Card Packs will also be available independently. Despite some concerns regarding Limited Run Games' recent quality control issues, anticipation for these releases remains high. The blend of nostalgia, unique collectibles, and a humorous nod to gaming culture could make these editions a sought-after opportunity for collectors and fans alike. Pre-orders for all editions will begin on April 18 and will conclude on May 18, offering a tight window for interested buyers to secure their copies. With the prevalence of digital gaming, this physical re-release serves as a significant nod to the nostalgia for tangible video game collectibles. The success of this venture will likely hinge on Limited Run Games' ability to address past product quality critiques, ensuring that the premium prices commanded are justified by the offerings provided.
