Mo Chara, a member of the Irish rap group Kneecap, has been charged with a terrorism offense following an incident where he allegedly displayed the Hezbollah flag during a concert at London's O2 Forum Kentish Town in November 2024. This incident gained significant attention after footage surfaced and gained traction after Kneecap's performance at Coachella, which included pro-Palestine and anti-Israel sentiments.

The footage depicts Mo Chara, whose real name is Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, wrapped in the flag of Hezbollah, designated as a terrorist organization by the UK since 2019. In the video, he can be heard chanting slogans supporting Hezbollah and Hamas, both labeled as terrorist groups by the British government. The circulation of this footage prompted the Metropolitan Police's counter-terrorism command to announce an investigation, as public support for these groups is illegal in the UK.

In response to the ongoing investigation, Kneecap released a statement distancing themselves from any support of Hamas or Hezbollah, stating, “Let us be unequivocal: we do not, and have never, supported Hamas or Hezbollah. We condemn all attacks on civilians, always. It is never okay.” Mo Chara is expected to appear in Westminster Magistrates' Court on June 18, where he will face the charges under the Terrorism Act.

Kneecap, based in Belfast, is known for advocating Palestinian rights and has made headlines for their outspoken views, particularly following escalated conflict between Israel and Hamas since October 2023. The group often draws parallels between the plight of the Irish during British rule and the current situation faced by Palestinians under Israeli occupation.
