The new Cars-themed area, named Piston Peak National Park, is set to replace Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America at Magic Kingdom. This exciting transformation incorporates a plethora of new elements and experiences, designed to immerse guests in the thrilling world of Pixar's Cars franchise.
Meet Ranger J. Autobahn Woodlore
Listeners will soon enjoy the presence of a brand-new character, Ranger J. Autobahn Woodlore. He is set to appear in the pre-show for one of Piston Peak's attractions. This family-friendly ride will accommodate racers of all sizes and offer a safety briefing led by Woodlore, setting the tone for the interactive adventure that awaits.
A Nod to Disney History
The character of Ranger Woodlore pays homage to Ranger J. Audubon Woodlore, known from classic Disney cartoons in the 1950s and 60s featuring Donald Duck and Humphrey Bear. Guests can expect a tongue-in-cheek take on this cornball nostalgia as they get ready for an action-packed attraction.
Two New Attractions
- Off-Road Rally Adventure: For older guests, this thrill ride will feature a rough and tumble journey through challenging terrains, navigating around geysers, mud spots, and more.
- Family-Friendly Ride: Designed for racers of all shapes and sizes, this attraction promises a delightful experience for younger visitors.
Disney Imagineering is taking the off-roading theme to another level by creating a real dirt course to help perfect the ride's feel. The ride vehicles will each have their own names and personalities, adding a charming touch to the family experience.
Revamping Frontierland
Piston Peak will be inspired by the scenic and rugged beauty of the Rocky Mountains, incorporating flowing rivers, waterfalls, and geysers. While fans have voiced disappointment over the demise of the Rivers of America, the new designs promise to enhance the natural beauty of Frontierland through the creative use of "parkitecture." This architectural style will seamlessly blend visitor lodges and Ranger HQ into the surrounding wilderness.
Transitioning Landscapes
The transition from Frontierland to Piston Peak will maintain visual continuity, with trees and natural barriers ensuring that both areas feel distinct yet connected. This change is expected to enrich the landscape previously dominated by the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island.
Closing Details
Effective July 7, 2025, both Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island will close their doors permanently to facilitate these changes. July 6, 2025, will mark the last operational day for these beloved attractions. Notably, the Walt Disney World Railroad will continue its service, albeit in a shuttle mode due to the temporary closure of the Frontierland station.

Looking ahead, Piston Peak National Park promises to blend the nostalgic magic of Disney with the exhilarating energy of the Cars franchise, while also preparing to debut the awaited Disney Villains Land behind Big Thunder Mountain.
