Excitement Builds for Six Flags Great America's Newest Record-Breaking Coaster: Wrath of Rakshasa

Thrilling New Attraction Set to Open

Anticipation is building as Six Flags Great America in Gurnee prepares to unveil its latest thrill ride, Wrath of Rakshasa, officially opening to the public on May 31. This dive coaster, standing at a breathtaking 171 feet tall, boasts the steepest initial drop—measuring a staggering 96 degrees—of any dive coaster in the world, marking a significant achievement for the park.

Ride Features and Experience

Upon reaching its peak of 180 feet, riders will experience a brief moment of suspended excitement, hanging over the edge for three seconds before plunging into the initial drop. In addition to its sharp descent, the ride features five inversions and speeds that reach up to 67 miles per hour, providing an adrenaline-packed experience for coaster enthusiasts.

Set in the County Fair area of the park, Wrath of Rakshasa is not just a ride; it’s part of a larger theme. Guests can also view The Ornelas Brothers’ traveling exhibition, which showcases unique artifacts connected to the legendary demon, enhancing the immersive experience.

Test Rides and Community Engagement

Earlier in the week, NBC Chicago's reporters Matt Rodrigues and Alicia Roman tested the ride, joyfully shouting "one more time!" as they completed their journey. This hands-on experience has generated buzz as the community eagerly awaits its opening. Last month, Six Flags conducted a volunteer call for a promotional commercial, requiring applicants to meet certain criteria, including a minimum height of 52 inches and the ability to ride multiple times without discomfort.

Parks and Events for the 2025 Season

This attraction coincides with Six Flags Great America's 49th operating season, which is set to be filled with a variety of events. Six Flags is promoting a wide range of family-friendly activities as part of its "Summerbration," including live performances and themed nights spanning throughout the summer. Significant dates for the calendar include:

  • Star-Spangled Nights: July 3-5
  • Great American Nights: July 12 - August 3
  • Viva La Fiesta: August 16-17 and August 23-24
  • Oktoberfest: September 13 - November 2
  • Fright Fest: September 13 - November 2
  • Kids Boo Fest: September 13 - November 2

In addition, a special fundraising event for the United Way of Lake County is scheduled for June 7, providing a private preview of the coaster with proceeds supporting community initiatives.

Special Offers and Military Appreciation Days

As part of the inaugural celebrations, Six Flags will offer free admission for military personnel from May 23-26, encouraging veterans and active-duty members to experience the park’s thrills. Additionally, the park is promoting a Memorial Day sale for season passholders, offering discounts on passes for those eager to make the most of the summer season.

This innovative addition to the park promises to not only enhance the thrill-seeking experience but also foster community engagement and provide numerous entertainment options suitable for all ages. With the official opening date fast approaching, excitement continues to grow for the Wrath of Rakshasa and the unforgettable experiences waiting for visitors.
