A new Disney theme park is coming to Abu Dhabi.

The Walt Disney Company has announced plans to establish its seventh theme park resort in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, in collaboration with UAE-based developer Miral. Set on Yas Island, this ambitious project is intended to blend Disney's signature entertainment with elements that reflect the rich cultural heritage and modernity of Abu Dhabi. Bob Iger, Disney's CEO, expressed enthusiasm about the project, highlighting the park's potential to reach a diverse audience, given that one-third of the world's population resides within a four-hour flight from the UAE. The park promises attractions that incorporate advanced technology and immersive storytelling, benefiting from the strategic location that could attract an estimated 500 million tourists. Iger stated that while Disney's Imagineers will spearhead the design and operational oversight, the company will not directly invest capital into the park. Instead, Disney plans to receive royalties and service fees based on the park's revenue, marking a strategic move that allows the corporation to expand its brand globally without significant financial risk. This announcement aligns with the company's overall strategy of focusing on its 'Experiences' segment, which has shown robust growth amidst economic uncertainties. In the second fiscal quarter alone, Disney recorded $8.89 billion in this segment, underscoring its importance to the company's financial health. As the project unfolds over the next several years, the new park is anticipated to significantly enhance tourism in the UAE and contribute to the region's growing reputation as a global entertainment hub. Yas Island already boasts several attractions, making it a fitting location for Disney's expansion into the Middle East, a region Disney sees as an integral part of its future growth plan. In summary, this new park is not only a testament to Disney's strategic vision for international expansion but also reinforces the UAE's emerging status as a preeminent destination for family entertainment on a global scale.
